We want DeskNearMe to be useful to as many people as possible, including people who use assistive technologies or navigate the web in different ways.

Our approach

We aim to design and maintain DeskNearMe with recognised accessibility good practice in mind, including the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. Our current objective is to work towards Level AA accessibility across the main browsing, search and workspace-listing journeys.

This statement is an aim and description of our approach, not a claim that every page or third-party component currently achieves full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance.

Measures we take

• use semantic headings and meaningful link text where practical;
• support keyboard navigation in core interfaces;
• maintain visible focus states and readable colour contrast;
• use responsive layouts that work across different screen sizes;
• provide text alternatives or decorative treatment for images where appropriate;
• avoid relying on colour alone to communicate important meaning;
• review new directory components with accessibility in mind.

Third-party content

Some external maps, linked websites, embedded services or content supplied by third parties are outside our direct control and may not meet the same accessibility standard.

Improvement

DeskNearMe is an evolving service. We use feedback and testing to prioritise accessibility improvements as the directory develops.
